BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 10, 2016)-Victoria Turnbough had a team- and season-best eight kills, seven digs and a team-high three blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Bears dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-16) decision to Winthrop in the finale of the Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament on Saturday evening.

Winthrop (5-) was led by Sydney Gunter, who finished with a match-high nine kills and Emma Weakland added eight kills for the Eagles, who notched a total of 42 kills for the match. Siani Yamaguchi totaled 20 assists, while Hannah Lackey added 19. Carlie Skelton collected a match-high 12 digs.

The Eagles finished the match with a .355 hitting percentage, as Brianna Gray led the way with seven kills on nine attempts for a hitting percentage of .667. Morgan State was limited to 26 kills and a hitting percentage of .088.

Morgan State (0-10) scored three straight points to take an 11-8 lead over Winthrop in the first set. Trailing 21-18, Morgan State used a mini 2-1 run to pull within 22-20, but the Eagles would hold on for a 25-21 victory.

Winthrop broke a 4-4 tie with four consecutive points to take an 8-4 lead in Set 2. A 6-2 run by the Eagles increased their lead to 15-6. The Eagles would close out the set scoring six of the last seven points to win 25-11.

The teams treaded points back-and-forth in Set 3, until the Eagles broke a 5-5 tie by scoring the next three points to trigger a 10-2 run, giving Winthrop a 15-7 cushion. The Eagles held their largest lead of the set at 23-13 and went on to win, 25-16.

Winthrop held a 7.0-4.0 advantage over Morgan State in blocks. Gray, Gunter and Kelsey Schroll each recorded three blocks.

Morgan State will finally play in front of the home crowd when they host American in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Hill Field House. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
