BALTIMORE, Md. (April 6, 2016)-The Morgan State softball team extended its season-long winning streak to four straight, following a 6-1 non-conference victory over cross-town rival the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Softball Stadium.
Morgan State (9-20) improved to 2-22 all-time against the Retrievers, while UMBC (16-21) dropped its fifth straight game.

Amy Begg (6-8), pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on two hits, three walks. Begg also threw a season-high 10 strikeouts, surpassing the eight strikeouts she recorded last month in a game against Mount St. Mary's (3/11), which was also played at UMBC Softball Stadium. Senior
Kimber Salvas and junior
Kate Vosper each went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and RBI to lead Morgan State. Salvas also recorded three of the team's six stolen bases.

The host Retrievers struck first when Kelly Lane homered to left centerfield to give UMBC a 1-0 lead in the second inning. That lead would hold up until Morgan State managed to score six times in the top of the sixth inning on four hits, coupled with two UMBC throwing errors.

Damali Young got things going with her one-out single through the right side. Young would then steal second base and later scored when
Kate Vosper singled and reached second on a throwing error and also scored to give the guests a 2-1 lead. Salvas would single in
Giselle Alvarez and Nicole Holquin would also score on a throwing error to make it a 4-1 lead for the visiting Lady Bears. Salvas would score the fifth run when
Stormy Zyzyk was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Young would return to the plate with bases still loaded and drew a walk, which scored
Danielle Pitpit for the final run. Â Â

Morgan State will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend when it travels to Norfolk, Va. to take on the Spartans of Norfolk State. The three-game series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the weekend with a single game on Sunday at noon. All three games will be played at NSU Softball Field on the Norfolk State campus.
