LUTHERVILLE, Md. (April 5, 2016)-The Morgan State women's tennis team got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon, as the Lady Bears won their home opener against rival Coppin State, 6-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match played at Green Spring Racquet Club.
Â
The match was moved from the Morgan Tennis Courts to the indoor facility due to the cold temperatures. Morgan State improved to 5-8 overall and 4-1 in MEAC action. Coppin State, which has dropped seven of its last eight matches and two straight, fell to 2-9, and 1-4 in the MEAC.
Â
Morgan State swept the two doubles matches that were played to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 over the Eagles.
Â
The Lady Bears then claimed all five singles matches to preserve the shut out. Neither team had players available for the third doubles match or sixth singles match.
Â
"It feels good to get a win at home," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes. "We needed this one, and we delivered."
Â
Morgan State returns to non-conference action on Thursday, April 7, when the Lady Bears travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell at 1 p.m.
