BALTIMORE, Md. -- Morgan State freshman
Jeremy Field was named Men's Tennis Co-Athlete of the Week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for his play from the previous week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Norfolk State's Antonio Pejic joined Field as the Co-Athlete of the Week.
The award is the second of the season for the recently minted All-MEAC First Team selection, and the fifth time this season a Bear has earned a Player of the Week award on the men's side.
Field, a native of Seyssinet-Pariset, France, registered three singles victories at the No. 2 position against Coppin State, Norfolk State and Hampton. He rallied against Norfolk State's Dan Dumitrascu for a three-set victory, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Field, who ranks No.1 in the MEAC singles winning percentage (.750), has amassed a 15-5 dual match record, including a 5-0 mark in MEAC play, and has been a steady performer for the Bears week in and week out. He has also posted a 10-7 doubles record with teammate
Arjun Ramakrishnan.
Morgan State (12-10, 5-0 MEAC) clinched its fifth straight MEAC North Division title last Sunday in a win against Hampton and earned the No. 1 North seed in the MEAC Championship under coach Townes.
The Bears, who have won five consecutive northern divisional crowns, have won nine of their last 10 matches heading into the MEAC Championships.
The MEAC Championships are scheduled for April 21-23 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. #1 seed Morgan State will take on #4 seed North Carolina A&T in first round action on Thursday, April 21. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
