BALTIMORE, Md. (April 10, 2016)-The Morgan State women's tennis team closed out their 2016 home slate on Sunday and sent senior Chelsi Russell out in style, as the Lady Bears defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks, 6-0 at the MSU Tennis Courts.
 
The win improved the Lady Bears to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division play. Morgan State also concluded with a 2-1 home record. UMES fell to 0-10 and 0-3 in the MEAC.
 
The Lady Bears would not allow a single UMES point to be earned in the match.
 
Russell, who would earn a No. 5 singles victory over UMES by default, was paired with Danielle Thompson one final time at home. The two would earn a 6-0 victory over the Lady Hawks team of Alese Brown and DaTonya Price at No. 1 doubles.
 
Kayla Price and Chloe Kabamba secured the doubles point for Morgan State, following their 6-0 No. 2 doubles victory over Crystal Crooke and Evelyn Chappell.

"It's nice to win the last home match of the season and it was a great day for our senior Chelsi Russell," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes. "She played some great tennis and led the ladies today."
 
The Lady Bears return to action next Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Norfolk, Va. to take on the league-leading Spartans of Norfolk State in a MEAC Northern Division contest at 1 p.m.
