Box Score 3 HAMPTON, Va. (March 20, 2016)-The Morgan State softball team managed to salvage a game in its three-game weekend series against the Hampton Lady Pirates, as the Lady Bears defeated Hampton in the series finale by a score of 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium.

Morgan State improved to 5-16, 1-2 in the MEAC, while the Lady Pirates dropped to 9-15 overall and 2-1 in MEAC play.

After dropping both games of the doubleheader on Saturday to lose the season series to the Lady Pirates, Morgan State responded by scoring a season-high eight runs on 10 hits, but also committed two errors. Hampton would record five hits, scoring two runs and had no errors.

The Lady Bears responded to a 1-0 deficit, by tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the first inning on a home run by
Kimberly Fontaine.
Stormy Zyzyk later singled to left field to score
Briana Jones to give the guests a 2-1 advantage.

Hampton evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second when Lorena Alvarez reached on a fielding error, which allowed Kayla Deschepper to score.

That would be as close as the Lady Pirates would get, as Morgan State added three runs in the third inning to extend its lead to 5-2. Fontaine singled to left field and advanced on a throw to score
Korynna Lara.
Danielle Pitpit would single through the left side to drive in two runs, scoring Fontaine and Alvarez for the 5-2 lead.

Morgan State would add to its lead with three more runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open to take an 8-2 lead. Pitpit tripled to right field to score Jones and
Alyssa Blanco drove in two runs with a single up the middle for the seventh and eighth Morgan State runs of the game.

Allison Hartman earned the win for the Lady Bears and improved to 2-8 on the season. Hartman finished with four strikeouts and allowed two walks, while surrendering two runs on five hits in seven innings of work.

The Lady Bears were led by Pitpit, who had a game-high 3RBI and went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Audrianna Alvarez, Fontaine and Jones all went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jones and Fontaine each scored twice and Fontaine finished with 2RBI.
Giselle Alvarez had two stolen bases and Jones recorded three stolen bases.

Hampton was led by Hope Sobelewski and Taylor McCoy, who both went 2-for-3 at the plate.
