Lady Bears Fall At Howard, 3-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 4, 2016)-Jessica Young recorded a match-high nine kills and Khaila Donaldson added eight, as host Howard closed out the regular season with a perfect 12-0 league record, following a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-22) defeat of Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Friday evening at Burr Gymnasium.

Morgan State (6-20, 6-5 MEAC) was led by Natashia Barker, who tallied nine kills and had eight digs. Milan Amos finished with a career-best six kills and six digs. Michaela Collins had eight digs and Jasmin Hubbard totaled a team-best nine digs. Roi Wallace collected a match-high 20 assists.

Howard (23-5, 12-0 MEAC), which concluded the regular season winning its final 13 matches, finished with a .278 hitting percentage with 31 kills and just nine errors on 79 attempts. The Lady Bison also held a 9.0-0.0 advantage over Morgan State in blocks.

Howard jumped out to an 18-8 lead and led 21-11, before the host Lady Bison scored four straight to close out the set with a 25-11 victory. Howard would record 11 kills on 22 attempts and had no errors for .500 hitting percentage.

A kill by Amos capped off a 3-1 mini run by the Lady Bears to make it a 16-12 contest in Set 2. Morgan State would get no closer than four points, as the hosts closed out the set with a 6-2 spurt to win 25-17.

Howard scored the first three points of Set 3 and extended its cushion to four points (16-12), following a kill by Young. The Lady Bears would get within 21-20, but the host Lady Bison closed out the set and match by scoring four of the final six points for the 25-22 victory.

Tamia Dockery finished with 17 assists and Morgan Marlbrough had a match-high 10 digs for the Lady Bison. Dominique Cleggett tallied a match-high six blocks for the Lady Bison, who wrapped up their third straight MEAC Northern Division title.

The Lady Bears will wrap-up the regular season this Sunday, Nov. 6 when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. Morgan State won the first meeting in straight sets at Hill Field House (10/14).
