BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 28, 2016)-Rachel Kayongo tallied a match-high 14 kills, while Koya Sowells finished with a match-high 11 digs, to lead second-place Maryland Eastern Shore to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-10, 25-13) sweep of Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Friday evening at Hill Field House.

The Lady Hawks (14-12, 7-2 MEAC) ended a two-match losing slide with the victory and swept the season series with Morgan State. The win also kept the Lady Hawks in sole possession of second in the league standings, while improving to 20-42 all-time against Morgan State.

Morgan State fell to 5-19, 5-4 in the MEAC with the loss and dropped its second straight at home. Fortunately, the Lady Bears still remain in third-place in the standings due to Norfolk State's (6-17, 4-5 MEAC) loss at league leader Howard on Friday. Only the top four teams in the division will advance to next month's MEAC Volleyball Championship (Nov. 18-20) in Princess Anne, Md.

Keana Browne, who was coming off a career-high 21 kills in the last outing at Norfolk State, finished with a team-high eight kills, while senior
Haley McClure added six kills and nine digs. Sophomore
Natashia Barker and freshman Jasmine Hubbard each totaled 10 digs and freshman
Roi Wallace recorded 18 assists and a match-high four service aces.

UMES had 12 more kills than Morgan State and finished the evening with a .294 hitting percentage with 34 kills and nine attack errors on 85 attempts. Ivana Blazevic recorded a match-high 29 assists.

Morgan State had a hitting percentage of -.020 with 22 kills and 24 errors on 99 attempts. The Lady Bears did hold tally seven service aces to four by UMES. The hosts also held a 5.0-4.0 blocking advantage with Barker leading the way with a match-high three blocks.
Victoria Turnbough added two blocks.

The Lady Bears close out their home slate this Sunday, Oct. 30, when they welcome Delaware State (1-24, 1-8 MEAC) to Hill Field House. The Hornets earned their first win of the season on Friday, knocking off Coppin State on the road by a score of 3-1. Sunday's match will be Morgan State's annual Dig Pink match, as well as Senior Day. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
