BALTIMORE, Md. -- Morgan State men's tennis team hosted Beltway rival Howard on a windy Saturday afternoon at MSU's Tennis Courts and posted an impressive 6-1 victory. The Bears are now 2-9 overall and improved to 2-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. Howard slides to 2-11 and 1-2 in conference play.
"Our men came up with a huge win today," said first year MSU coach Matt Townes. "We put ourselves in the driver's seat for the North Division title, as well as locking up one of the top seeds in the MEAC tournament."
"Execution was superb today, and we are peaking at the right time. It feels great having such wonderful support from the home crowd." The Bears dominated singles play and suffered its only setback of the day when
Evan Ward dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Ismael Kaouache at the No. 1 position.
Duk Young-Park ran his singles record to 6-3 overall (6-1 at No. 2) after defeating William Jones III 6-3, 6-3.
Felix Andre dropped Myron Davis 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Lucas Krinsinki won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, while
Treajh Ferguson and
William Jay rounded out the singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Ward and Young-Park posted an 8-4 win over Kaouache and Davis at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Ferguson and Andre made quick work of Hawkins Owens IV and Nico Sorrell, 8-2, to help capture the doubles point.
