BALTIMORE, Md. (April 24, 2015)-The Morgan State softball team will travel to Princess Anne, Md. this weekend for a MEAC Northern Division series against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Â
The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 pm, before closing out the series with a single game on Sunday at noon. This weekend will be the final home series for the Lady Hawks, who will be honoring their seniors. In a classy move on the part of the UMES coaching staff and softball program, Morgan State's three seniors will also be recognized during the Lady Hawks' Senior Day festivities.
Â
UMES currently sits in fifth-place in the league standings, while the Lady Bears are in sixth. Only the top four teams in the division will advance to the MEAC Tournament.Â
Â
The Lady Hawks (7-26, 4-8 MEAC) are coming off a non-conference doubleheader home loss to the University of Delaware on Wednesday, by the scores of 11-0 and 17-0.
Â
The Lady Bears (4-28, 3-8 MEAC) moved up in the northern division standings from seventh to sixth-place yesterday without even playing a game, following Coppin State's doubleheader loss to Norfolk State on Thursday afternoon. The first-place Spartans and Coppin State conclude their series with a single game today.
Â
Morgan State, which is on a four-game losing skid, is coming off a non-conference doubleheader series loss at rival Towson on Wednesday. The Lady Bears would drop the first game 4-3, before falling to the Tigers in five innings, 11-3.
Â
The Lady Bears, who have lost 7 of their last 8 MEAC games, dropped their last league series at home to Howard (April 18-19). The visiting Lady Bison regrouped from dropping the opening game to win the final two games to capture the series win, thus spoiling Morgan's Senior Day.
Â
The Lady Bears are 14-1 against UMES since the 2010 season and have won five straight series. The last time UMES defeated Morgan State was on April 27, 2013, 13-10 in Game 2 in Princess Anne, Md. The Lady Hawks' last series win against Morgan State came in 2009, with UMES winning two out of three games in Baltimore.
