BALTIMORE, Md. (April 17, 2015)-The Morgan State Lady Bears softball team will welcome Beltway rival Howard to Lois T. Murray Field for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division series this weekend.
Â
The two teams will square off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18 starting at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the series with a single game on Sunday at noon. Â
Â
The Lady Bears (3-24, 2-6 MEAC), who are in the midst of a five-game losing skid, are coming off a 12-0 loss in five innings at Delaware State on Wednesday. The loss gave the host Hornets a 2-1 series victory over Morgan State, which enters the second half of the MEAC season on Saturday sitting in sixth-place. Only the top four teams in each division will advance to the upcoming MEAC Softball Tournament in Ormond Beach, Fla.
Â
Howard (12-23, 6-6 MEAC), which currently holds the fourth-place in the league standings, has won four of its last six games, but is coming off a 0-10 shutout loss at home to Hampton last Sunday for Senior Day. The loss gave the visiting Lady Pirates a 2-1 series win.
Â
The Lady Bison hold a commanding 28-10 series lead over Morgan State dating back to the 2004 season. Howard has won nine of the last 11 series against the Lady Bears, including last year's series, 2-1 in Washington, D.C. Morgan State's last series win over Howard came during the 2013 season, with Morgan State sweeping all three games at Lois T. Murray Field. The two teams split the 2004 series, each winning three games apiece. Howard would eliminate the Lady Bears from the 2004 MEAC Tournament, following a 4-1 victory at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
