Bears drop Coppin State 4-1, Remain 'The King of the North'

Four-peat as MEAC North Division Champions

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State University men's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Coppin State, 4-1, on Saturday and proved why it really is the 'King of the North' in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.  The Bears clinched its fourth straight MEAC North Division title and earned the No. 1 North seed in the MEAC Championship under first-year head coach Matt Townes.

The Bears improved to 4-10 overall and 4-0 in MEAC play, while Coppin State fell to 1-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

"We are very excited about this win, but we are hungry for much more than this," said Townes. " Next week comes our true test and it should be fun to see how our guys will perform under pressure."

Senior Duk Young-Park posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory over Patrick Thomas in number 1 singles to lead the Bears. Lucas Krusinski recorded a 6-2, 5-7 (10-2) win against Reginald Robinson at number 2.
