NORFOLK, Va. -- The 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championship gets underway on Sunday, March 8 at Echols Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University (Va.). The Cheerleading Championship begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on MEACsports.com.
The MEAC Cheerleading Championship features competitive squads from the conference's member institutions showcasing their talents through jumps, partner stunts, pyramids, tosses, tumbling, and motion and dance routines. Along with the participating MEAC Institutions, area middle and high schools, as well as recreational cheerleading teams will be performing.
The annual Cheerleading Championship ignites the week of events surrounding the annual Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. The 2015 MEAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament tips-off March 9-14 at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
Morgan State University captured its fourth straight championship in 2014 with Florida A&M University (2
nd) and South Carolina State University (3
rd) rounding out the top three overall team awards.
"This year we will have seven seniors on the mat," said MSU head coach
Theresa Gibson. "Although we are all feeling the pressure, I believe the desire to win that 'five MEAC titles in a row' will put the seniors in turbo mode."
"As a team, it is our goal to push through to the end as close to perfect as possible. We plan to keep our eyes on the prize. The desire and the will are there. We just have to perform like winners."
