Morgan State Notes | Coppin State Notes

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 26, 2015)-BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 26, 2015)-Morgan State will play in the friendly confines of Hill Field House for the final time during the 2014-15 regular season, when they play host to crosstown rival Coppin State on Saturday for 'Senior Day' at 2 p.m.

The contest will be final home game for senior guard and captain Tracey Carrington. The Lady Bears will look to end their current five-game losing skid and try to even up their home record at 6-6.

"I have been extremely blessed to be able to play Division I college basketball", said Carrington. "It has been a remarkable and rememberable four years for me here at Morgan. Saturday will be an emotional yet bittersweet day for me, just reflecting back on everything since I stepped foot on campus in 2011 when I was only 17.

"I have watched myself mature in so many ways on and off the court. I just always wanted to be a leader for my teammates to look up to. I think I have filled big shoes throughout my four years here and it wouldn't have been possible without my teammates and Coach Beas never losing faith in me."

A win by Morgan State would result in a season series sweep over the Eagles for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Lady Bears average 56.3 points per game, while surrendering 61.8 points to their opponents. Coppin State averages 57.6 points and allows 68.1 per contest.

For Carrington, who is averaging 16.1 points per game in seven meetings against the Eagles, closing out her career with her final home game coming against rival Coppin State is only fitting.

"I think that God works in mysterious ways," said Carrington, who is 4-3 all-time against Coppin State. "What other way to end my senior day than to be playing Coppin? It gives me more of a reason to go out with a bang and I know my teammates feel the same way. It's always a battle playing Coppin and it's always been a game to look forward to. The 'Battle of Baltimore' can't get any better than that. It will be a good game."

BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (9-18, 6-8 MEAC) suffered its fifth consecutive loss, following a 67-59 loss at North Carolina A&T on Monday, Feb. 23. Carrington was an All-MEAC first team selection by Madness College Sports at the conclusion of last season.

IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE: Last season's five wins marked the second time in Donald Beasley's tenure at Morgan State that the squad won just five games. The last time that happened was in Beasley's his first season at the helm during the 2005-06 campaign, when the Lady Bears went 5-24. The very next season the team recorded 18 wins, which at the time set the school mark for wins on the Division I level and also reached the MEAC Championship game, just the third appearance in the title game in school history.
