Morgan State Extends Winning Streak To Three Straight With Defeat Of UMES, 3-1

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Oct. 30, 2015)-Evely Macedo recorded a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and added 11 digs, while Carmen Fernandez also tallied a double-double with a match-high 44 assists and had 11 digs to lead visiting Morgan State past the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Friday evening at the Hytche Athletic Center.

The win was the third straight for the Lady Bears (10-13, 7-2 MEAC), who remained in second-place in the league standings, behind first-place Howard (9-1 MEAC). Earlier in the season the Lady Bears handed Howard their lone MEAC loss. The two teams will meet again next Friday, Nov. 6 in Washington, D.C.

Haley McClure fell shy of a double-double, finishing with 11 digs and nine kills, while Keana Browne totaled nine kills. Arianna Hayden recorded a match-high 15 digs, as the Lady Bears avenged an earlier 3-0 home loss to UMES. The loss still remains as Morgan State's lone conference defeat at home this season.

UMES (17-6, 5-3 MEAC) was led by Petra Jerabkova, who recorded 26 assists and had a team-high 13 digs. Kirstin Fink had nine kills and Zuzana Ondruskova added eight kills and 11 digs. Andjela Reljic finished with 10 digs.

The Lady Hawks held a 10.0-6.0 blocking advantage over Morgan State. Alana Polk led UMES with a match-high five blocks, while Marta Klafuric and Fink each recorded four blocks. Morgan State was led by Browne, who had three blocks, including two solos. Dinah Jones also added three blocks.

The Lady Bears will travel to Dover, Del. this Sunday, Nov. 1, when they visit Delaware State in a MEAC Northern Division match at 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
