BALTIMORE, Md. (April 23, 2011)-The eighth annual Morgan State University Legacy Meet concluded on Saturday at Hughes Stadium. Despite rain showers taking place during the opening half of Day 2 the sunshine finally made an appearance to make the meet a success. In the Lady Bears finished of the 2011 Legacy Meet recording eight top five finishes, including two relay teams to lead host Morgan State to a sixth-place finish with 63.50 points.
Pittsburgh, despite sending a split squad to the meet, while the other half its team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton, still would not be denied in capturing its fourth consecutive Legacy title. The Panthers would score a total of 124.50 points to capture the crown, while Towson (95 points) and Sacred Heart (88 points) placed second and third, respectively. Fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes Maryland Eastern Shore (75 points) and Hampton (72 points) finished fourth and fifth, respectively to round out the top five.
Britney Wattley placed fourth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.00, while Teyanna Green placed sixth at a time of 12.08. Wattley also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.60. Tanisha Kendrick ran a time of 54.84 to place second in the 400 meter dash and Ekundayo Sogbesan ran a time of 57.30 to come in sixth.
In the field events Monae Waller finished third in the high jump with a height of 5-03.00 and Samantha Clay placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 127-03.
The Lady Bears relay teams also had a productive day. The 4X100 meter team of Charisma Green, Teyanna Green, Tanisha Kendrick and Britney Wattley came in second with a time of 46.85. The 4X400 meter relay team of Ekundayo Sogbesan, Wattley, Kendrick and Teyanna Green crossed the line in a time of 3:45.97 to take third.
Morgan State will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. next weekend (April 28-30) for the 117th Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field.
