BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 29, 2010)-Playing in its first match in 11 days, the Morgan State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (15-25, 10-25, 20-25) decision to visiting American on Wednesday night at Hill Field House. With the loss, the Lady Bears fell to 0-22 all-time against the Eagles and was also dealt their third home loss this season in as many tries.

  

Morgan State, which concluded its non-conference slate with a 2-14 mark, was led by #Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh#, who finished with a team-high eight kills and added seven assists and eight digs in the loss. Erin Cox tallied six kills, seven digs and two blocks, while Dominique Bozier added five kills and a block, giving her 195 blocks for her career and moving her into sole possession of eighth-place all-time at Morgan State. Jourdan Lemons notched 14 assists and Dina Beamon totaled a team-high 12 digs. Shaundalyn Taylor recorded three blocks for the Lady Bears.

  

The visiting Eagles (14-2) were paced by Angelina Waterman's match-high 11 kills and Magdalena Tekiel added eight kills and eight digs. Krysta Cicala tallied 22 assists, while Alexandra Hammer finished with 11 assists. Deborah Frantz totaled a match-high 13 digs. American held a 6-5 advantage in blocks with Waterman leading the way with three.

  

Morgan State finished the match with 23 kills, but committed 21 attack errors in 97 attempts for a hitting percentage of .021. American recorded 38 kills and had just 12 errors in 100 attempts for a hitting percentage of .260, including a match-high .414 during the second set, which the Eagles notched 15 kills and had just three errors in 29 attempts. The guests also took advantage of six service aces with Tekiel and Waterman each having two aces.

 

The Lady Bears will return to action next Friday, Oct. 8, when they begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play on the road against Maryland Eastern Shore. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hytche Center in Princess Anne, Md.
