BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 14, 2010)-Erin Fortner tallied a team-high 11 kills and added nine assists, two digs and two blocks to lead the visiting Navy Midshipmen to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) non-conference sweep of Morgan State on Tuesday evening at Hill Field House. The loss was the third straight home loss for the Lady Bears dating back to last season.

  

Jenny Rudewicz notched 11 assists for the Mids and Lauren Carpenter totaled a team-high 12 digs for the Mids, who improved to 4-7 on the season and now trail the all-time series with Morgan State, 5-4. The Midshipmen, behind three blocks apiece by Carpenter, Ndidi Ibe and Kaitlin Roseti held a 6.5-4.0 advantage in blocks.

  

Ashley Johnson led Morgan State with a team-high 11 kills and Erin Cox and #Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh# added seven and six kills, respectively, for Morgan State which suffered its ninth consecutive loss and fell to 1-10 on the season. Chafeh also recorded a match-high 15 assists and tallied two of the Lady Bears' three service aces. Dina Beamon led Morgan State with 14 digs.

  

For the second consecutive home match in as many meetings this season, Morgan State came out flat, uninspired and failed to show the same type of intensity, enthusiasm and desire to win, as it as showed thus far on the road.

  

The Midshipmen finished the match with 29 kills on 77 attempts with 11 errors and had a hitting percentage of .234. The Lady Bears tallied 28 kills, but also committed 29 attacked errors on 95 attempts for a hitting percentage of -.011. Both team combined for 24 service aces with Morgan State finishing with 14.

  

The Lady Bears will look to get back in the win column this weekend (Sept. 17-18), when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the Spartan Spiketacular hosted by UNC Greensboro.

  

Morgan State opens the tournament on Friday, Sept. 17 against the host Spartans at 7 p.m., before closing out with matches against Gardner-Webb at 12:30 p.m. and Norfolk State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

- Ashley Johnson has tallied 38 of her 72 kills this season in the last four matches…Johnson, who set a career-high 11 kills last week against Kent State (9/10) has recorded 11 kills for the second consecutive match and third time in the last four matches.

  

- Morgan State fell to 0-2 this season at home…The Lady Bears last home victory was a sweep of Hampton on Oct. 23, 2009.

  

- Dominique Bozier collected two assisted blocks against Navy, giving her 185 for her career…Bozier is now 10 blocks away from passing former Lady Bear Dorothy Buford (194) for eighth on the all-time charts and 13 blocks shy of passing Kyria Jones (197) for seventh-place.
