CLEVELAND, Ohio (Sept. 11, 2010)-Morgan State fell to host Cleveland State (CSU), 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-15) Saturday afternoon in the CSU Invitational at Woodling Gym. The loss was the Lady Bears' second of the tournament and extended Morgan State's losing skid to eight straight.

  

Amy Benz and Marie Frease led the Vikings, who are off to a school-record best 8-0 start, with 10 kills apiece. Annie Djukic finished with 34 assists and Amy Grabiec totaled a match-high 18 digs.

  

Erin Cox led Morgan State (1-8) with seven kills ad had 11 digs, while Dominique Bozier added six kills. Dina Beamon led the Lady Bears with 17 digs, while Ashley Johnson contributed a career-best 13 digs.

  

Cleveland State scored the first five points of the opening set, before taking an 18-8 advantage. The host Vikings led 24-12, before the Lady Bears got four straight points on the serve of Cheryl Savoy, to bring Morgan State within 24-16. CSU would win the set 25-16.

  

The Vikings, who tallied 12 kills in the second set and a hitting percentage of .300 for the set, took an 11-3 led and extended their cushion to 20-6. Morgan cut the deficit to 22-11, before losing 25-11.

  

Morgan State fell behind 5-0 in the third set, before later using a 9-4 run to pull within 14-17. But that would be as close as the Lady Bears would get, as CSU went on a 7-0 run to take a 24-14 lead.

  

The Vikings recorded 40 kills for the match and had a hitting percentage of .277, while Morgan State finished with 22 kills and a hitting percentage of -.042.

  

Morgan State concludes the CSU Invitational with a non-conference match against D.C. foe, George Washington at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Bears are 0-6 all-time against the Colonials.
