WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 10, 2010)-Erin Cox led three Lady Bears in double figures in kills, tallying team highs in kills (19) and digs (14) to lead visiting Morgan State to a thrilling 3-2 (25-17, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 15-11) victory over Howard in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match on Sunday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium. The win ended a three-match losing skid, as well as a four-match losing streak to the Lady Bison.

  

“We went away from what it took to win,” said Morgan State head coach Ramona Riley-Bozier, on the Lady Bears failing to close out the match in three sets.

  

Morgan State scored five of the first six points of Set 5 and increased its cushion to 10-4, following a kill by Shaundalyn Taylor. Howard would score the next four points in the midst of a 5-1 run to pull within 11-9 after a kill by Gazelle d'Artois. A kill by Rhyan Shy ended the Lady Bison's run and Cox closed out the match by recording the last two kills for Morgan State to secure the victory.

  

Dominique Bozier, who finished with a hitting percentage of .417, added 13 kills and recorded two blocks to move into seventh-place all-time at Morgan State with 199 career blocks. #Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh# totaled a career-high 10 kills, while Shy collected four kills, four assists and 11 digs. Jourdan Lemons notched a match- and career-high 34 assists and added 12 digs and two blocks. Dina Beamon finished with 13 digs and recorded two of the team's three service aces.

  

Howard (4-15, 1-1 MEAC), which finished with 61 kills and a hitting percentage of .179 was led by Tosin Elebute, who led three Lady Bison in double figures with a match-high 22 kills. Keri Partridge added 16 kills and Jiyana Brown finished with 10 kills. Nicole Brown and d'Artois led Howard with 15 and 10 digs, respectively. Taylor Johnson recorded a match-high five blocks to help the Lady Bison to a 7-6 block advantage over Morgan State. Jasmine King led the team with 33 assists, while d'Artois added 21 assists.

  

The Lady Bears return to action on Friday, Oct. 15, when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State in a MEAC match at 6:30 p.m. at the PEC.
