Setting the Scene: The Morgan State football team continues its 112th season of football on Saturday, Nov. 14 when they they travel to face #9 South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action at Dawson Bulldog Stadium in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The contest will be broadcast live on WEAA, 88.9FM.

The Bears (5-4) fell to fourth place in the MEAC as a result of a 31-23 decision last Saturday night against Norfolk State. South Carolina State enters this weekend's matchup coming off a 43-13 blowout home win at Howard. The Bulldogs improved to 8-1 overall and are a perfect 6-0 in the MEAC. MSU's loss last Saturday dropped head coach Donald Hill-Eley's all-time record to 41-47 nine games into his eighth season at the helm. Hill's 41 wins since 2002, is good enough for third-best all-time record behind legendary coaches Edward P. Hurt and Earl. C. Banks. Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. (EST). Series Notes: MSU and South Carolina State meet for the 36th time ... The two schools are 550 miles apart from each other... SCSU leads the series 29-5-1 and will attempt to win for the seventh consecutive time against the Bears ... MSU will attempt to avenge an embarrassing 32-0 loss on November 15, 2008 at Hughes Stadium ... The last time the Bears defeated SCSU was on Nov. 11, 2006 at Hughes Stadium (29-20) ... During the 2008 matchup, RB Devan James was limited to 79 yards on 22 carries and the Bears offense was limited to 133 yards on 58 plays ... The Bears recorded a 21-0 shutout win in the first meeting against SCSU on Oct. 16, 1971 under coach Earl C. Banks ... Donald Hill-Eley has a 1-6 record against the Bulldogs ... INTERESTING MATCHUP
MSU's No. 1 pass defense will be put to the test against one of the best spread offenses in the MEAC. SCSU QB Malcolm Long is the league's No. 2 ranked passer and is currently averaging 195.9 yards per game with 14 touchdowns. He has completed 150-of-225 passes for 1,763 yards with four interceptions. Long completed 21-of-33 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs 43-13 win at Howard last Saturday.

ONE TO WATCH
Senior LB George Howard has been one of the standouts on the defensive side of the ball. The 6-1, 230-pound Virginia native and 2009 Preseason All-MEAC second team selection ranks No. 4 in the Football Championship Subdivision in total tackles and is currently the MEAC's leading tackler with 107 stops. “The Hitman” has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week three times and collected a game-high 17 tackles against B-CU. It marks the third week in a row he has been selected MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
SCARLETT A KICKING STARLET
Kemar Scarlett has beena highlight for the Bears'special teams unit as a resultof his field-goal-kickingprowess. The junior kickerranks T-No. 4 in the MEAChaving connected on 8-of-11field goals, including makesfrom 41, 42, 48, 52 and hit a 48 andtied a MEAC record by kicking a 55-yarder atDelaware State. So far this season, Scarlett hasbeen selected twice as MEAC Special TeamsPlayer of the Week. He is 15-of-16 on PATs.
UP NEXT
MSU will travel to take on the Hampton Pirates in a MEAC season-finale on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009. Kickoff is set for 1 pm ET at Armstrong Stadium in Hampton, Va. The game will mark the 60th meeting between the teams since 1930. MSU leads the series 35-17-2, and outlasted the Bears 17-13 during last season's matchup at Hughes Stadium.
