But tonight the Bears dominated from buzzer to buzzer as they ran away with a 71-54 victory in Hill Field House. It was one of MSU’s best performances all season and the Bears record at home improved to an impressive 7-1 record.
Morgan State (9-13, 7-5) continues to do a quality job of defending its home court and improved to 7-1 in Hill Field House.
Ron Timus was a headache for A&T coach Jerry Eaves throughout the contest. The junior was a bundle of energy on the court and caused constant problems for the Aggies on both offense and defense. The Washington, DC native came up one point shy of his career high by scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds and three steals.
The Bears shot 43.3% (29-67 FG) from the field, while holding A&T to 36.2% (17-47 FG). MSU was a monster on the glass by outrebounding the Aggies by a 52-27 margin.
Brand was the only other Bear to finish in double-figures as he finished the contest with 17 points and connected on 5-of-11 three-pointers. Aaron Andrews was close to recording his sixth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds and nine points. Chris Grant and Joseph McLean added eight points each.
N.C. A&T’s (4-18, 3-8) Michael Hayes scored 11 points and was the only Aggie to record double-digits. Sean Booker, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s leading scorer, was held to a sub-par two-point performance. Booker finished 0-for-8 from the field and 0-for-3 from beyond the arc.
MSU was leading 40-32 with 16 minutes remaining when they pulled away on a 30-4 run over the next 10 minutes. The run was capped by a 3-pointer by Sam Brand at the 5:23 mark to give the Bears a 24-point lead to the delight of 1,891 fans.
