The Morgan State University Lady Bears (2-21, 2-12) didn't go down without a fight, but they did go down to the MEAC leading Lady Hornets of Delaware State. MSU fell by a count of 55-37 to DSU at Hill Field House on Monday night.
The Lady Bears made a game of it for much of the first half. Morgan State was down by only 5 points with 11 minutes left in the half. The Lady Hornets went on a 17-1 run over the next 10 minutes and took control of the contest.
At intermission, MSU was down 30-12.
The Lady Bears did make a late run, and got within 9 points on a basket by Candace Holmes with 8:22 remaining in the game. However, that would be as close as Morgan would come.
The win gave Delaware State (16-6, 11-3 MEAC) a season sweep over the Lady Bears, and ended Morgan's hopes of a two-game winning streak following their win on Saturday over Howard.
The Lady Bears shot only 28% from the field and did not have a single player in double figures. MSU was only 1 of 12 from 3-point land and made only 6 of 18 free throws.
Candace Holmes led the way for MSU with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Sharonda Watson had an eight point night and Whitney Johnson also poured in 8 points.
The Lady Bears return to action on Saturday, February 21, 2004 when they take on the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State. Tip-time is set for 2:00p.m.
