The Morgan State University Lady Bears (1-20, 1-11 MEAC) gave the 2nd place team in the MEAC a battle, but fell 72-61 to the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers in Tallahassee, FL on Monday night. MSU lost their 7th consecutive game in front of 432 fans at Gaither Gymnasium on the Florida A&M campus.
The Lady Bears were trying to dig out from a deficit for virtually the entire game, and were unable to put together a run to get over the hump. MSU actually out-shot the Lady Rattlers (46% to 43%), and were dead even with FAMU in rebounding (34 to 34).
Turnovers were once again a big problem for the Lady Bears. Morgan State turned the ball over 22 times. Florida A&M committed only 8 turnovers for the evening. Additionally MSU had limited free throw opportunities. The Lady Bears were 3 of 6 from the line, while FAMU hit 11 of 14 free throws.
MSU found themselves behind by 15 at intermission.
In the 2nd half the Lady Bears attempted to chip away at the Rattler advantage. A 3-pointer by Renee Robinson brought Morgan to within 9 with 12:56 remaining. But FAMU answered with a 12-2 spurt to regain control of the game.
The Lady Rattler lead grew to as much as 17 points, before Morgan staged a late spurt to close to within 7 points with 1:39 remaining. But MSU would not score again, as FAMU won for the 9th time in their last 10 games.
The Lady Bears were led by Sharonda Watson and Javone Davis who contributed 13 points apiece.Â

Morgan State returns to action on Saturday, February 14, 2004 when they take on the Lady Bison of Howard University. The game is set for a 5:30p.m. tip-off at Hill Field House on the Morgan State University campus.
