COUTREYER

Keith Coutreyer

Keith Coutreyer enters his second season as Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations at Morgan State University, bringing over 15 years of collegiate coaching experience across the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Big South Conference. His extensive background in program management, coaching, and player development makes him a vital asset to the Bears’ pursuit of continued success on the court.

Most recently, Coutreyer served as Chief of Staff at Maryland Eastern Shore during the 2023-24 season, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational skills. He previously honed his coaching expertise at Hampton University, serving as an Assistant Coach from 2008-2010 in the MEAC and again from 2020-2022 in the Big South.

Coutreyer spent nine years (2010-2019) as Associate Head Coach of the Howard University men’s basketball team, playing a pivotal role in all aspects of program operations. Following a coaching change, he served as Special Assistant to the Head Coach for the 2019-20 season, overseeing academic engagement programs and managing administrative functions to support student-athlete success on and off the court. During his tenure, he mentored some of Howard’s standout players, including R.J. Cole, Kyle Foster, James Carlton, James Miller, James Daniel III, and Charles Williams, the MEAC and Howard all-time leading scorer.

Before his collegiate coaching career, Coutreyer enjoyed a successful 13-year tenure at Laurel High School, leading the Spartans to the 2008 PGCPS county and regional championships and a state semifinal appearance. Under his guidance, 25 players advanced to NCAA programs. Coutreyer emphasizes the lasting impact of mentorship, noting, “Wins will be celebrated and then forgotten, but the lives that you impact positively will last a lifetime.”

Coutreyer’s commitment to education is equally impressive. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Columbia Union College in 1993, where he was a standout point guard competing at both NAIA Division I and NCAA Division II levels. He later earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from Howard University in 2018 and holds certification in Special Education.
