Student Life
What is the best time of the year on campus? "The best time of the year on campus is Fall because of volleyball season and all of the events going on."
What is your major and why? "I chose my major (Strategic Communications) because it’s an applied art & science. As well as the field of work that my major prepares me for fits best with my personality."
What is your favorite class? "My most interesting class at MSU was Communications in the Black Diaspora, because it correlated the way African Americans communicate with each other and our skewed perspective of the world around us because of our history."
If you had to give an incoming student advice, what would it be? "If I had to give an incoming student advice I think it would be time management. There’s always events going on campus but you have to keep in mind that you are here for academics."
What do you like most about Morgan? "What I would like to change at Morgan State is the stigma the students and even some faculty have about our student-athletes."
Pop Culture
What social media do you prefer the most? "The social media I prefer the most is Twitter, because everyone is always laughing at something."
Would you rather read the book or watch the movie? "I would always rather read a book over watching a movie because what I imagine in my mind is tailored to what I would like and the other hand the movie would be something totally different."
Favorite TV Show? "My favorite TV show is Rick & Morty because of the dark and subtle humor."
Favorite Book? My favorite book is “The Wait” by Meagan Good.
Favorite musician/musical group? "My favorite celebrity is Young Thug, just because he has the best music in my opinion."
My favorite cartoon or children's show as a child was… "My favorite cartoon as a child was definitely Courage the Cowardly Dog because of the dark humor and the little things you had to catch for it to be funny."
Travel
Most interesting place you've visited? "The most interesting place I’ve ever visited is probably Mexico for the first time because I had never been, and I always wondered if it was the same way it looks on television and social media."
Place you would like to visit? "A place I would want to really visit would be London, i’m obsessed with British accents."
Food
Favorite home cooked meal? "My favorite food is either seafood or Mexican food."
Favorite snack? "My favorite snack would definitely have to be white cheddar po
As a child I always hated when my mom would make me eat... "broccoli."
Favorite breakfast cereal as a kid? "My favorite breakfast cereal as a kid were Trix, when they were fruit shaped."
Sports
When is your favorite time of your sports season? My favorite time of sports season is preseason because I have nothing to do but focus on volleyball.
Which team do you most look forward to competing against? "The team I look forward to playing the most this season is Florida A&M because they ended our season last year."
Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals? "A pregame ritual I have is listening to Usher’s Confessions album the day of the game. Unlike most people I like to be in a relaxed mood before I compete, not listen to hype music."
What is your favorite athletic memory? "My favorite athletic memory was when I was a freshman in high school and I ran a mile faster than all the upperclassmen."
What is your favorite athletic memory? "I think my top skill on the court is knowing where to put the ball as well as my court sense and awareness."
When did you start playing volleyball? I started playing volleyball at the age of 12.
Misc
When you are not at practice, what could someone find you doing? "If I’m not at practice someone could find me somewhere eating food and watching Netflix."
Do you have a hidden talent? "My hidden talent would be that I could use my feet as hands, I can write and pick up things with my feet [laughs]."
If you could play another sport other than yours, what would it be? "If I could play another sport I think I would want to play softball because it looks like it’s so much fun."
What do you most look forward to doing during the summer? "What I look forward to the most during the summer is my family reunions, because I have family all over the country/world and we always make it a point to come together over the summer to enjoy each others company."
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? "If I could have a superpower I think I would want to read people’s minds, because I’m super nosey."
Do you have an interesting nickname? "A weird nickname I had when I was younger was “Frenchie”-- I honestly don't know where that came from my dad used to always call me that. Now people just call me Dej."
If you could switch places with anyone on your team for a day, who would you choose? "If I could switch places with anyone on the team I think I would want to trade places with Coach, I don’t know if she counts but I would love to be coach for a day."
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? "The best piece of advice I've ever received is “Invest in yourself” not always speaking about financially, but investing quality time and energy to help you become a better person all around."
If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be? "If I could witness any event in the past, present or future, I think I would want to witness Michael Jordan in the 1998 Bulls @ Jazz, Game 6 NBA finals."
If I could change one thing about myself it would be? "If I could change one thing about myself I think it would be my eye color. I always wanted hazel eyes."
Person you admire most? "The person I admire the most is my mom. No matter what she goes through she always makes sure that her kids are okay."
Coolest thing you did this summer? "The coolest thing I did over the summer was go to Pride in DC."
Your hometown is known for? "My hometown is mostly known for bad water [laughs]."
Pop or soda? "Pop. Everyone from the Midwest says pop, and if you say soda you’re weird."
Cats or dogs? "Dogs, preferably pit bulls."
Early bird or night owl? "I’m more of a night owl, I hate waking up early more than anything."
Funniest person on the team? "Funniest person on the team I would definitely have to say Triniti [Smith], no matter what she’s always saying something funny."
