MEAC Teleconference Week 4

Question: “Well coach last week the Bears picked up their first win of the season against Virginia Lynchburg. Despite the game not having implications on the record books, talk about the game and how it benefited the development of the team.“

Lee Hull: “It’s a game that we played, that we won, so obviously that helps our confidence going into conference play. We have a tough game against Howard coming up this week. So statistically, Moses Skillon had a great game, 12-of-16 including four touchdowns and 246 yards… and he rushed four times for another touchdown.  Offensively, Ricky Fisk had a great game with five catches for 116 yards and a TD. He also rushed for another TD. Offensively, we did some good things which will help us with our confidence. On defense, we got a shutout so that helps our confidence as well. Greg Gibson had a great game with five tackles, three tackles for losses, a pass breakup, and a sack. Daylan Williams had 7.5 tackles and a sack. So we had a lot of guys do some great things, so hopefully that helps us going into the tough matchup we have coming up against Howard.“

Q: “This week you will take on a rivalry matchup against Howard in Chicago, can you share your thoughts about this pending game.”

LH: “ Well it’s a rivalry. They’re 45 minutes down the road in D.C.  Its always a tough game. Last year we played them in MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands and we won on a last second field goal. Its going to be a tough matchup, they have a good team coach [Gary] Harrell does a great job and I have a lot of respect for him. They will be well coached and ready to come out and give us a good game.“

Q: “These are two teams that look like they are desperate to gain identity this year. What do you think will be the key to this game?”

LH: “It starts with out offensive line. We have a young O-line that has been getting better each week and you can see the improvement from the first game to the second game, and obviously to our last game. That’s a big factor for us on offense, our O-line improving every game. Obviously, our quarterback -- it starts with him. I think he is the best quarterback in the league and he has been proving it all year long. When he does well, we do well because he can make all the throws, and when he gets us in the right place we are very effective on offense. On defense, we have a bunch of guys that play together as a unit. We’re pretty good. We play aggressive and run to the ball and I love the way they play with a lot of fire.”

Q: Howard isn’t known this year for having much of a pass rush. Do you think Moses [Skillon] is ready for another break out game?

LH: “I have a lot of respect for what Howard does. They have a great team. They get better every game and you can tell that on defense. I don’t know abut having a breakout game, I just want Moses to run our offense, have a great command of our offense, and take what they give us and don’t force things.”

Q: “Chris Moller won it for you last year, would you like to see lighting strike twice and him win it again?”

LH: “Well I hope it doesn’t come down to that, but if it does… yes I would love to see Chris kick the winning field goal.”
