MEAC Teleconference Week 11

QUESTION: “Tough battle last week, but you didn't get the victory access last week's matchup?"
LEE HULL: “It was a very tough battle. We played a very good football team and they are well coached. We went down there and we stayed in the game the first half. But our guys got a little worn down by the warmth and humidity. The weather was a factor. We battled and didn’t give up, so I’m looking forward to our next game."
Q: “With last week's loss the conference title is no longer the focus of the season. What goals are you placing on this team to keep them focused on the remaining games?”
LH: “Well we can still have a winning season if we win the next two games. We’d be 6-5 and it would be the first time since 2002-03 that Morgan State has had two back-to-back winning football seasons. So our focus is to finish strong these last two games to fulfill a winning season, and to go into the offseason on a high note and get ready for next year.”
Q: “This week you will host Florida A&M. What are your thoughts on this upcoming matchup?”
LH: “They are a good football team and you can see on film they are getting better each week. They have some big threats on the offensive side with speedy wide receivers and their quarterback can throw the ball, so we are going to have to work defensively. On their defense, they have some guys that run around so we have to come prepared to play. It’s a home game for us, so hopefully that will help us get back on the winning track."
Q: “Lee with just two games left in the regular season and the MEAC championship out of reach are you worried about team morale going into these last two games?”
LH: “No, not at all. The guys have been up in the office the past two days they are in good spirits and again we talked about us finishing strong and having a winning season for the first time in 12 years. So the team morale is high, they understand the position they are in, and that we just need to finish strong and go into the offseason on a positive note.”
Q: “ You mentioned a winning season, you guys are 3-5 right now so if you win the next two games wouldn’t you be .500?”
LH: "Well, I still count the other one [Lynchburg], so I count us at 6-5. Regardless of what that is, we played the game and we won the game so I look at it that way. If you want to go that route, 2008-09 was the last time we had a winning season and non-losing season back-to-back. So for us we count that because we won the game and that’s how we look at it.”
Q: “With two games left do you consider playing younger guys or guys that haven’t had much playing time to gauge what you have coming into next season?”
LH: “We only have nine seniors on the team and seven of them play a lot of snaps for us. Most of our young guys are playing for us. When you look at it that way we are playing for the future right now."
Q: “Well let me be more specific regarding the quarterback position?”
LH: “We aren’t changing that position we are still going with Moses [Skillon] and Seth [Higgins]. They are our quarterbacks."
Q: “Can you talk about Damare Whittaker and his performance this year? He ranks 4th in the conference in tackles per game. What’s impressed you about him?"
LH: “Well, Damare is probably our best athlete at the linebacker spot. We moved him to outside linebacker this year and it took him a couple of games to adjust, but he has taken that position and run with it. I think it’s the best fit for him because he is good out in space and can run."
