Morgan State Postgame Notes - Week 5

PLAYER NOTES:
• Redshirt senior quarterback Moses Skillon completed 11-of-26 passes for season-high 143 yards, including a season-long 11-yard TD pass to redshirt junior Lamont Brown III. Skillon also added 61 yards on 12 carries, including a 32-yard TD run.
• Redshirt senior wideout Lamont Brown III led the Bears with 37 reception yards on three catches, including an 11-yard touchdown.
• Starting junior running back Orlando Johnson had a game- and career-high 124 yards (5.9 avg) on a career-high 21 carries and scored on an 8-yard TD run, while Lamont Brown III finished with nine carries for 53 yards (5.6 avg).
• Freshman Darius Johnson posted his first career interception when he picked off Delaware State quarterback Esayah Obado late in the second quarter. Redshirt sophomore Cravon Rogers made his fourth career start at strong safety and finished with a pair of tackles and a fumble recovery.
• Junior Greg Gibson, sophomore Damare Whitaker and junior Andrew Mitchell led the Bears defense with seven tackles apiece and combined for five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
• Senior linebacker Joel Scott harassed the Hornets for most of the game recording a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. The Bears also had five separate defenders record five or more total tackles.
• Redshirt sophomore nose tackle Jai Franklin posted three tackles, with 1.5 sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss and a QB hurry.
• Freshman linebacker Mike Gaynor recorded a season-high six tackles (5 solo).
• On special teams, junior Chris Moller averaged 40.8 yards per punt, including a career-high 63-yarder. He also averaged 53.3 yards per kickoff with three touchbacks and nailed a pair of field goals (26, 23 yds).
 
TEAM NOTES:
• Game Captains: Chris Miller, Andrew King, Andrew Mitchell and Greg Gibson.
• Morgan State’s offense totaled a season high 250 rushing yards and 143 passing yards.
• The Bears held Delaware State to 91 rushing yards and finished with 11 tackles for loss, a season high six sacks to go along with three turnovers. The Bears allowed a season low 228 rushing yards and 137 passing yards.
• On special teams, the Bears gave up a season low average of 5.3 yards per kick return.
• The Bears recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the ballgame and recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter.
• The teams combined for 22 penalties for 177 yards. The Bears were flagged 11 times for 76 yards, while the Hornets lost 101 yards on 11 flags.
• With the win, Morgan State increased its lead in the series against Delaware State to an overall record of 34-26. The Morgan State Bears have won 6 of the last 7 meetings against the Hornets since 2008, including the last three meetings (2013, ’14, ’15).
• The attendance at Alumni Stadium was 1,528.
• Morgan State scored the first 6 points of the game and had it not been for a blown coverage on a scramble the Bears were looking at pitching its first conference shutout of the season.
• MSU head coach Lee Hull's record against Delaware State improved to 2-0. Hull’s teams have outscored the Hornets by a 95-13 margin
• The weather conditions in Dover were marked by light rain, 30-35 mph wind gusts and 60 degree temperatures.
• The NASCAR XFINITY Series could be heard at the Dover International Speedway just across the street from Alumni Stadium.
