BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 27, 2026)--The Morgan State volleyball team was at home Sunday afternoon, hosting Beltway rival Howard in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match at Hill Field House. The Bears would fall in their MEAC home opener, 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 21-25, 15-25).
 
Morgan State dropped to 2-12, 1-1 MEAC with the loss, while Howard improved to 2-11, 1-1 MEAC and ended an eight-match losing streak.
 
Coming off a 3-1 victory on Friday evening in the conference opener at Norfolk State, winning three straight sets, the Bears seemed to continue that momentum playing in front of the home crowd, as they claimed the first set against Howard.
 
The Bears hit a set-best .265 in the opening frame with 14 kills, also a set high. Howard was held to a .176 hitting percentage with 12 kills.
 
But the Bison would somehow regroup, battling from an eight-point deficit in the second set to even the score at 1-1. Leading 12-11 in Set 2, the Bears went on a 7-0 run, capped off by three straight attack errors by Howard to increase their lead to 19-11. The Bison then went on runs of 3-0 and 7-0 to reclaim the lead at 21-20. A kill by Panekova later tied the score at 24-24. But the Bison would score the next two points for the 26-24 victory.
 
From there, momentum shifted on the side of Howard, which earned a four-point win in the third set, before putting the contest away with the 25-15 win in the fourth frame. Howard collected a set-best 16 kills in the second and third sets and hit for a set-best .359 in Set 3.
 
Michaela Panekova picked up her second double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 13 digs and 10 kills. Panekova also had a team-high two service aces to go with an assist and a block. Isabelle Brown secured her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season, after totaling a match-high 26 assists and 12 digs. Brown also posted four kills and a block, is now 32 assists shy of reaching the 1,000 mark. Jada Williams hit .310 and nearly recorded her second straight double-double, leading the Bears with 12 kills, while collecting nine digs. Williams also added an assist and a service ace.  
 
Howard was led by Addison Buckner's match-high 16 kills, while Daylon Johnson hit .409 with 13 kills. Camryn Shelton led the Bison with a math-high 20 digs. Alexys James finished with a double-double with 21 assists and 13 digs and added eight kills and a match-high three assists.
 
Next up for Morgan State is a trip down South for its annual trip to the Carolina's. First up for the Bears is a stop in Durham, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 2 to take on North Carolina Central. First serve is at 4 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena. Morgan State will then travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to face South Carolina State on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at Dukes Gymnasium. Both contests will air live on the MEAC Network.
