BALTIMORE, Md. (April 4, 2026)--Morgan State traveled to Dover, Del., this weekend to take on the Delaware State Hornets in a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series at DSU Softball Field.
The host Hornets would sweep the series, defeating the Lady Bears 4-0 and 8-2 in Friday's doubleheader, before claiming a 6-4 victory in today's finale.
Morgan State (8-20, 5-7 MEAC), who entered the series winners of seven of its last nine games, had won three straight series, including a sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore last weekend at home.
Delaware State (13-16, 6-6 MEAC), winners of three straight and seven of its last eight games, has now defeated the Lady Bears in five of the past six meetings.
Game 1
Morgan State collected four hits but was unable to plate any runs in the opening game.
Olivia Garner tallied a game-high three hits, going 3-for-3 on the day, while
Hunter Newman collected the Lady Bears' fourth hit.
The Hornets scored a run each in the first, second and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Delaware State wounded out the scoring when Mianna Lopez hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning to make it a 4-0 game.
Kristin White pitched seven innings and struck out a game-high nine batters to earn the win for the Hornets. Morgan State's
Millie Cousins tossed three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
Game 2
The Hornets completed the doubleheader sweep by totaling eight runs on 13 hits, while Morgan State collected six runs, scoring twice.
Delaware State scored a run in the first inning, but the Lady Bears bounced back with a run in the third and scored again in the fourth when
Cassie White singled to right field to score
Millie Cousins to give the guests a 2-1 lead.
The Hornets countered with six runs in the fifth inning, capped off by Chandler Martin's double to left field to score two runs, as Delaware State reclaimed the lead at 7-2. In the sixth inning, Destiny Mitchell scored the game's final run on a single hit by Kaylanie Rodriguez for the 8-2 win.
White led the Lady Bears with two hits and
Alison Keener had a game-high two walks and scored a run. Rodriguez led the Hornets with a game-high four hits, a run scored and 2 RBI. Mitchell had two hits and scored a game-high three runs.
Morgan State will return home next weekend to host Beltway rival Howard in a MEAC series (April 11-12) at Lois T. Murray Field. The Lady Bears and Bison will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m., before closing out the series with a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Howard (18-13, 11-1 MEAC), the defending MEAC Champions are riding a nine-game winning streak and have won 12 consecutive MEAC series, dating back to the 2024 season. The Bison completed a series sweep on the road of North Carolina Central on Saturday with a 16-5 win in six innings. Howard would total 50 hits, while outscoring the Eagles 38-8 in the three games.
