Morgan State Men's Basketball Finish Strong, Take East vs. West Battle

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 6, 2026) -- The Morgan State Bears made a furious sprint to the finish, pulling away late for a 70–66 victory over crosstown rival Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown Thursday night at Hill Field House.

On Senior Night, Morgan State's veterans left everything on the court, knowing the game marked their final appearance at home as Bears.

"I'm soaking it all up," said graduate student Elijah Davis. "This has been a really great year for me. This is the most I've won in college."

Alfred Worrell Jr. spearheaded the scoring effort with 20 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the free-throw line to help seal the win. Eugene Alvin also finished in double figures with 14 points and made his presence felt defensively with five blocks. Walter Peggs Jr. provided a spark off the bench with 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, while Davis added 10 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting performance.

The contest remained close throughout, with Morgan State holding a narrow 34–32 halftime lead. In a game that featured 16 lead changes, the Bears relied on balanced scoring and timely defensive stops to secure the victory down the stretch.

With the win, Morgan State improves to 13–15 overall and 9–4 in conference play, moving into sole possession of second place in the MEAC standings. Coppin State concludes the regular season at 7–24 overall and 5–9 in conference play.

NOTE THE QUOTE | COACH KEVIN BROADUS

Coach Broadus reflected on the rivalry and the familiarity of facing former staff members now at Coppin State.

"Playing against Coppin is always a battle. It's either win or lose, and no matter my relationship with Larry Stewart, that goes out the window once the ball goes up."
