BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 5, 2026) -- Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge is rapidly establishing himself as one of the nation's rising stars at the FCS level.
Just five games into his tenure as the Bears' senior starting quarterback, Edge has already earned national recognition, being named the BOXTOROW National Player of the Week following his record-setting performance in Morgan State's thrilling 38-35 victory over Villanova on Saturday.
Edge turned in one of the finest passing performances in Morgan State history, completing 31 of 40 attempts for a career-high 444 yards and three touchdowns, while adding two rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning 1-yard score with 36 seconds remaining to lift the Bears to victory.
The win moved Morgan State to 4-1, marking the program's best start since 2009.
Edge finished the afternoon with a 127.5 passer rating and helped lead an offense that amassed a season-high 521 total yards, including 444 through the air.
Head coach Damon Wilson praised Edge's poise, decision-making, and ability to make plays when the Bears needed them most.
"Cam's a guy that understands football, understands what we're trying to get done. We put the game on our O-line, and Cam's back to get that one yard."
Edge's 444 passing yards rank No. 3 all-time in Morgan State history, trailing only LeJominick Washington's school-record 515 yards in 2001 and Orlando Persell's 484 yards in 1992. Washington completed 31 of 46 passes in his record-setting performance.
The Villanova performance was the latest chapter in what has quickly become an impressive start to Edge's first season leading the Morgan State offense.
Through five games, Edge leads the MEAC in passing, completing 81 of 116 attempts for a league-best 1,156 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He is averaging 231.2 passing yards per game and ranks No. 6 in the FCS in completion percentage (.698).
Since taking over as the Bears' starting quarterback, the Eastern Michigan transfer has displayed a combination of accuracy, poise, and playmaking ability that has made him one of the conference's most dynamic offensive threats.
Against Villanova, Edge delivered timely throws downfield, culminating in a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback that gave Morgan State its biggest win of the season.
The national recognition from BOXTOROW adds another milestone to a breakout campaign for the rising quarterback, who has quickly become the catalyst behind Morgan State's best start in 17 years.
Edge and the Bears will return to action Saturday, Oct. 10, when Morgan State hosts Robert Morris (3-2, 1-0 NEC) for Homecoming at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
