BY THE NUMBERS

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 22, 2026) -- Welcome to By the Numbers, a weekly look at Morgan State football as the Bears work through their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule to close out the season.

Morgan State enters league play at 5-2 with the program's first winning season since 2014 within reach. The Bears are also aiming for their first conference title since 2014, which would send them to the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta.

Five games stand between the Bears and that goal, starting with Howard at Hughes Stadium on Oct. 24 and ending at North Carolina Central on Nov. 21. Each week we'll break the game down by its key numbers, from the drives that changed the scoreboard to the defensive stops that decided it.

The big picture
5-2 | The Bears have already passed their 2025 win total, after finishing 4-8 overall and 1-4 in MEAC play last year.

No. 24 | Oct. 12 marked the first time Morgan State appeared in the national media rankings, which go back to about 1990. The Bears debuted in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 with 116 points. They also entered the Tennessee State game (Oct. 17) No. 1 in the Black College Football Division I FCS Poll.

4 | The winning streak that ended in Nashville was the longest of the Bears' season.

The Bear explosives
444 | Cameron Edge's passing yards at Villanova. He went 31-of-41 with three touchdowns, and his longest completion was 79 yards. The Bears had nine plays of 15 or more yards, three of them longer than 45.

55 | Morgan State scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters and 13 in the fourth, for the season's first shutout.

41 | Points scored in the win at Towson.

56 and 45 | The yardage of the two plays that started the Homecoming comeback. Edge hit Joseph Towler for a 56-yard touchdown, and Keith Jenkins Jr. added a 45-yard touchdown run.

98 and 113 | Jenkins's rushing yards in back-to-back games. He ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries against Robert Morris. He followed with 113 yards and a score at Tennessee State.

About 1,500 and 12 | By my tally of the game reports, Edge has thrown for roughly 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns through seven games.

The clutch defensive moments
17 | The Bears ended a 17-year losing streak to Towson and took the Battle for Greater Baltimore. The defense recorded seven tackles for loss and five sacks. Towson ran for just 61 yards. Senior defensive back Dantonio Hackworth Jr. blocked a field goal attempt from the Bears' 5-yard line.

0 | Points allowed to Virginia-Lynchburg.

7 | Points allowed at North Carolina A&T. The Aggies scored on a 17-play, 70-yard opening drive that ate up 9:33. The Bears gave up nothing else on the way to a 17-7 win.

1 | The sack-fumble that sealed the Homecoming win. Robert Morris had one last chance, but Donovan Moyer's fumble was recovered by Jordan Jeudy. Earlier, Shawn Phillips blocked an extra point.

Seconds on the clock
36 seconds | At Villanova, Edge scored with 36 seconds left to cap a six-play, 56-yard drive. It came after Edge had been intercepted in the end zone with 2:45 left and Villanova up 35-31. Final: 38-35.

24 seconds | Jenkins's one-yard touchdown, after an 11-play, 75-yard drive, made it 28-27 over Robert Morris. The Bears had trailed 14-0, and Edge's 22-yard scramble on third-and-7 set up the score. They outscored the Colonials 18-7 in the third quarter.

Den Protection
2-0 |
The Bears are 2-0 at Hughes Stadium for the first time since 2024 and will look to improve to 3-0 at home for the first time since 2014—a season in which Morgan State claimed a share of the MEAC Championship and advanced to the first round of the FCS Playoffs.

Up next
Five games remain | MEAC play opens Saturday, Oct. 24, against Howard at 3 p.m. at Hughes Stadium. The Bears are chasing the program's first winning season since 2014. They are also after their first conference championship since 2014.
