Lady Bears Fall At Home To S.C. State, 62-59

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 10, 2025)--Despite shooting 21 more free throws and making 16 more than visiting South Carolina State, it would be the Lady Bulldogs who would find a way to escape Morgan State with their second win in as many games in Baltimore, following a 62-59 victory on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.

With the win S.C. State improved to 5-13 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while Morgan State dropped to 2-17, 1-2 in the MEAC. The Lady Bears' loss ironically ended what was a 14-game winning streak over the Lady Bulldogs and came just two days after Morgan State ended a season-long 14-game losing skid with its win over North Carolina Central on Thursday.

Morgan State's Ja'la Bannerman came off the bench to lead the team with a game-high 19 points and recorded a game-high three steals, while Tiyanna James added 12 points and had a team-high five assists. Kailyn Nash grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go with her nine points on 9-of-10 shooting at the free throw line. Jael Butler also finished with nine points and pulled down eight rebounds, as Morgan State held a slim 34-31 advantage in rebounds.

Iemyiah Harris of South Carolina State also scored a game-high 19 points to lead the guests. Angie Juste-Jean came off the bench to score 11 points. Feliah Greer led all players with a game-high nine rebounds, while Mya Byrd recorded a game-high six assists.

The Lady Bulldogs would shot 50% (26-of-52) from the floor for the game, including 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range. S.C. State would shoot just seven free throws, connecting on four for 57%.

The Lady Bears will head to Dover, Del., next Saturday, Jan. 17 to take on the Delaware State Hornets at 2 p.m. at Memorial Hall. The Hornets were a 69-53 loser at home to defending champion Norfolk State on Saturday.
