DOVER, Del. (Jan. 17, 2026)--The Morgan State's
Kailyn Nash hit a jumper in the lane as time expired to give the visitors a 61-59 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall.
Morgan State improved to 3-17, 2-2 in the MEAC, while Hornets fell to 3-16, 0-4 MEAC.
The Lady Bears were paced by
Mihjae Hayes and
Ja'la Bannerman, who both finished with 12 points.
Gabrielle Johnson and Nash each added 11 points. Nash led the team with a game-high nine rebounds, including her final board which led to her scoring the game winner.
Morgan State, which led 26-21 at the half and by as much as 13 points (51-38) at the end of the third quarter, saw the Hornets use a 21-8 run in the fourth quarter to even the score at 59 all. Ericka Huggins capped off the run with a layup with 12.9 seconds left in the game to tie the score.
The Lady Bears came out of the timeout and Nash inbound the ball near the Morgan bench to Hayes, who with six seconds remaining, made her move towards the right side of the basket and missed a jumper. The ball bounced to Nash, who shot the ball with .8 seconds left for the win.
Morgan State returns to the court on Thursday, Jan. 22 when it travels to Norfolk, Va. to take on defending champion Norfolk State. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at Echols Hall. The Spartans were an 85-41 winner on the road at South Carolina State on Saturday.
