BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 25, 2025)--The Morgan State Bears open up their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schedule this Friday, Sept. 26 against Norfolk State at 6 p.m. at Hill Field House.
The Bears (3-7) are coming off a 3-1 loss on the road to Saint Peter's last Friday at The Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. A spirited effort by juniors
Hanna Nemeth, who led the team with 15 Kills and
Jada Williams, who led the team in aces (2) and blocks (4), kept Morgan State within reach, but the Peacocks would pull away with the win. Williams also moved into seventh-place all-time in blocks in school history with 237.
Norfolk State (1-12) secured its first victory of the season, following a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) sweep of rival Hampton in the "Battle of the Bay," on Tuesday evening.
Morgan State and Norfolk State are no strangers to one another with the Bears holding a 25-13 series lead. However, it's been the Spartans who have came away victorious in the last two meetings and five of the last six contests.
Last season's matchup between the two teams at Hill Field House took place during Morgan's annual Pink Out where Norfolk earned a thrilling 3-2 victory (25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11).
Junior setter
Mya Karrick had a career night, finishing with a career-best 42 assists, which stands to this day, while Senior
Madison Grace set a season high with 15 kills.
Daniela Ferreira had a spectacular match all around putting up nine kills, two aces, five blocks, and 10 digs.
Norfolk would win the first two sets before Morgan would comeback and push the match to a fifth set where the Spartans would ultimately pull out the victory.
After Friday's match the Bears will travel to the Nation's Capital to meet the Howard Bison, on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
