BALTIMORE, Md. (June 10, 2025)--Morgan State revealed its Spring 2025 Athletics Academic Report and announced a 3.09 GPA for the department, which is its highest for a spring semester.
Â
"I am incredibly proud that our student-athletes have achieved the highest GPA in our school's history this spring semester," said Morgan State Vice President/Director of Athletics
Dena Freeman-Patton. "This milestone reflects their dedication, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence–not only in their sport but in the classroom. It also speaks volumes about the unwavering support of our coaches, academic staff, and university community who champion their success every step of the way."
Â
The report highlighted the dedication of Morgan's student-athletes, with a remarkable 45 individuals achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA. Furthermore, the report demonstrated a strong commitment to academics across the board, as an impressive 67% of Morgan's athletes maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, showcasing a department-wide emphasis on balancing athletic pursuits with scholarly achievement.
The women's bowling team rolled its way to academic success this semester, achieving the highest team GPA among all athletic programs with an impressive 3.77. This accomplishment is part of a broader trend within Morgan State Athletics, as nine out of the university's sixteen athletic programs surpassed the 3.0 team GPA benchmark.
Â
"Our students have continued to stay more focused and purposely strive for academic success," said
Kim Ross-Watkins, Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. "Our academic staff has worked extremely hard to provide appropriate resources, have the hard academic conversations and prepare our students for the demands that come with being a student-athlete."Â
Â
Last month, during the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Sports Award Dinner in Virginia Beach, Va., Morgan State was honored with the league's Top Academic Progress Rate (APR) Award. It marked the first time that Morgan State held the highest APR in the MEAC since the award was first given after the completion of the 2017-18 academic year.
