CARY, N.C. (April 6, 2025)--Morgan State was unable to complete the three-game series sweep of North Carolina Central on Sunday afternoon, as the Lady Bears fell to the Eagles, 3-2 at Thomas Brooks Park.
Â
The loss ended Morgan State's eight-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) winning streak.
Â
Morgan State, which had its two-game winning streak come to an end, fell to 13-20, 9-3 in the MEAC. NCCU improved to 8-28, 5-7 MEAC.
Â
How It Happened
Morgan State, looking for its third consecutive MEAC series sweep, took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when
Olivia Garner grounded out to second to score
Amber Rivas.
Â
The host Eagles responded in the bottom of the inning when Makiya Graves singled up the middle to score Tyler Suttles to even the score at 1-1.
Â
NCCU would add two more runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 3-1. Kia Borum singled to left field to score Cameron Frye and Daiyah Bailey singled to right field to bring Codi Mann across the plate for the 3-1 cushion.
Â
The Lady Bears cut the deficit in half in the top of the seventh when
Jayla Campos reached base on a throwing error, which allowed Morgan Harrell Alvarez to score and make it a 3-2 game.
Â
Next Up: Morgan State will host Norfolk State next weekend for a three-game MEAC series at Lois T. Murray Field (April 12-13). Sunday's contest will mark Senior Day for the Lady Bears, who will honor graduate player
Victoria Fletcher.
