Morgan State Men’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2025) – Chris Bell scored a game-high 28 points to propel Cal to a 97–50 victory over Morgan State on Friday night at Haas Pavilion. The win improved Cal's record to 11–1 overall and 10–0 at home, while the Bears dropped to 2–9.

OPENING TIP
• Bell scored 13 of his game-high 28 points in the first half. He shot 8-of-11 from the floor and had six rebounds and three blocks.
• John Camden scored 20 points and knocked down 4-for-6 from 3-point territory, to go along with eight boards and five assists. Semetri Carr also had 20 points (7-7 FT) with eight assists and six rebounds. Lee Dort chipped in 12 points (5-6 FG) and seven rebounds.
• Pasadena native Christian Oliver led the Bears with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Rob Lawson contributed 11 points, dished out eight assists, and pulled down four rebounds.
Alfred Worrell Jr. finished with 8 points in 21 minutes.

THE DIFFERENCE
• Cal shot 59 percent (32-of-64) from the field and went 11-of-20 from three-point range. Morgan State shot 36 percent overall and shot 1-of-17 from deep.
• The Bears converted 58 percent (11-of-19) from the free-throw line, while Cal finished at 96 percent (22-of-23).
• Cal held a 36-24 advantage on the boards and outscored the Bears 42-24 inside the paint.
• Cal controlled the contest from start to finish, recording 19 assists, 12 steals, and only nine turnovers.
• The Bears opened the game by missing their first five shots before Christian Meeks scored on a putback to cut the deficit to 7–2 by the first media timeout.
• A 3-pointer from Chris Bell, followed by a pull-up jumper by Dae Dae Ames, pushed Cal's lead to 12–2. Morgan State struggled offensively early, shooting just 1-for-10 from the field before Rob Lawson knocked down a pull-up jumper to make it 12–4 with 12:33 remaining.
• Cal continued to build momentum as Ames connected on another 3-pointer, John Camden added a transition basket, and Carr converted free throws to extend the Golden Bears' advantage to 27–12, their largest lead of the night.
• Lawson later sparked the Bears by recording a steal in the backcourt and finishing with a layup to trim the margin to 33–17. However, Cal answered with a decisive 15–4 run to close the half and carry a commanding 50–23 lead into intermission.
 • Morgan State was held to 32 percent shooting in the first half, including 0-for-9 from beyond the arc. Cal shot 61 percent from the field and was 4-for-8 from the three.
• The Bears shot the ball better in the second half, but Cal remained red-hot. Camden knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to spark a 15–3 run, capped by a step-back three from Bell that pushed the lead to 74–39.
• Cal outscored the Bears 47–27 in the second half to pull away for a 97–50 victory.

NEXT UP
The Bears will continue their West Coast swing with a matchup at San Francisco on Sunday (Dec. 22), before wrapping the trip at Loyola Marymount on Tuesday (Dec. 23).
