Balanced Scoring Powers Mercyhurst Past Bears

ERIE, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2025) – Bernie Blunt III poured in 19 points to lead Mercyhurst to an 86–72 win over Morgan State on Saturday night at Owen McCormick Court inside the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Bears drop to 1–3 on the season, while the Lakers improve to 3–1.
 
OPENING TIP

• Blunt led five Lakers in double-figures. The junior forward had 19 points on 6-for-15 shooting and had five assists, two rebounds, and a steal. Jake Lemelman had 18 points (6-10 FG), Mykoulas Ivanauskas finished with 17 points and five boards, Qadir Martin added 17 points (5-5 FG).
Rob Lawson came off the bench and paced the Bears with a team-high 16 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line, adding four assists in 36 minutes of action.
Walter Peggs Jr. scored 15 points (4-5 FG), while Christian Meeks added 10 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in his first start of the season.
Alfred Worrell Jr. chipped in 9 points (7-8 FT) with seven boards and two assists.
Elijah Davis fouled out of the game with 8 points in 18 minutes.

THE DIFFERENCE

• Mercyhurst shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field and went 9-of-21 from three-point range. Morgan State shot 37.3 percent overall and shot just 2-of-9 from deep.
• The Bears converted 84.2 percent (32-of-38) from the free-throw line, while the Lakers finished at 60.7 percent (17-of-28).
• Morgan State held a 37-30 edge on the boards, including an 18-13 margin on the offensive glass. Mercyhurst outscored the Bears 38-30 in the paint.
• Mercyhurst's largest lead of the game was 30, when Qadir Martin scored on a layup to give the Lakers a 64-34 lead with 13:00 remaining in the second half.
• Defensively, Mercyhurst scored 20 points off of forcing 16 turnovers while committing 11 of their own. The Lakers also registered six blocked shots.
• Mercyhurst held a 42-24 halftime lead.
The Lakers closed out the game with an 86–72 win, despite being outscored by the Bears 48–44 in the second half.

The Morgan State Bears will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the North Carolina A&T Aggies (2–1) on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (EST) inside Hill Field House.
