PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2024)—Morgan State fought back from an 0-2 deficit to force a fifth and decisive set, but in the end would fall short in its comeback bid to Le Moyne, falling 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 15-25, 15-7) in their opening match of the Sonesta Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square Penn Invitational on Friday afternoon at historic The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The Bears (1-8) were led by
Daniela Ferreira, who finished with 11 kills to go with seven digs.
Mya Karrick totaled 18 assists and a team-high eight digs and
Trinity Carruthers added 12 assists.
Le Moyne (1-4) was led by Branwyn Lupton, who hit .550 and had a match-high 15 kills. Kayla Anstett would add 10 kills. Skylar Jehler recorded a match-high 27 assists and Haley Gerken totaled 15. Jordyn Hamlin and Gerken paced the Dolphins with 11 digs apiece.
Morgan State would once again out block its opponent, marking the seventh time this season. This time the Bears would hold a 12.0-6.0 advantage over Le Moyne.
Aubrey Wilson led the way with a match-high seven blocks, while
Jada Williams finished with five, including a solo block.

Morgan State will continue tournament play on Saturday, Sept. 14, when it faces Manhattan at 2 p.m., before closing out the day with a first-time meeting against host Penn at 4 p.m.
