Bears Honored to BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-American Team

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 31, 2024) -- Morgan State University's football program continues to garner accolades heading into the 2024 season. Three standout players, Elijah Williams, Erick Hunter, and Keith Jenkins Jr., have earned prestigious recognition as members of the BOXTOROW 2024 HBCU Preseason All-Americans team. In addition to these three All-American selections, Treyvon Branch has also earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Williams, an FCS Preseason All-America Third Team selection, has been a disruptive presence on the Bears' defensive line. His size, strength, and relentless motor have made him a nightmare for opposing offenses. The First-Team All-MEAC performer became a nightmare for offenses, cementing his reputation as one of the most dominant edge rushers in the conference. The New Jersey product registered 50 total tackles, including 31 solo tackles. His ability to penetrate the offensive line and disrupt plays was unmatched, as evidenced by his league-leading 11.0 tackles for loss.

Hunter, who was recently named to the FCS Preseason All-America First Team and Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List, has consistently showcased his defensive abilities from his linebacker position. Hunter earned the prestigious All-MEAC First Team selection as a leading force on one of the nation's best defenses last season. His exceptional defensive skillset propelled him to become a finalist for the coveted Buck Buchanan Award, recognizing the nation's top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Jenkins concluded the 2023 season with an impressive performance that earned him a spot on the All-MEAC Second Team. Appearing in 10 games throughout the season, Jenkins showcased his versatility as both a running back, a receiver, and most notably as a dangerous return specialist. He averaged an impressive average of 23.2 yards per kick return, ranking him fourth in the MEAC.  Jenkins enters the Fall as a Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection and will certainly be one to watch.

Branch, a Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection at offensive line, has also been acknowledged for his outstanding play. He has been named Honorable Mention, highlighting his significant role in protecting the quarterback and creating running lanes for the offense.

These four student-atheltes embody the spirit of the HBCU All-Americans team, which recognizes the exceptional talent and contributions of student-athletes at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Morgan opens its 2024 football season on Aug. 31 against the Hampton Pirates at Armstrong Stadium.
