NORFOLK, Va. (April 14, 2024)--The Morgan State softball team completed its series sweep of host Norfolk State with a 7-0 shutout victory on Sunday afternoon at NSU Softball Field. The Lady Bears extended their winning streak to four straight and picked up their second shutout victory in the series.

Morgan State (24-14, 13-2 MEAC), winners of six consecutive conference series dating back to last season, totaled seven runs on eight hits and walked six times. Norfolk State (4-36, 3-12 MEAC) finished with four hits and committed an error.

Ellie Bostedt (5-4) got the win for Morgan State. She pitched a complete game, scattering four hits and two walks, while striking out a game-high five batters.

Morgan State jumped out to a 2-0 in the first inning when Bostedt tripled to right field to score
Amber Rivas for the first run. Bostedt would later score when
Melissa Paz grounded out to second.

After four straight scoreless innings, the Lady Bears went back to work in the sixth inning to score four runs to increase their lead to 6-0. The inning was highlighted by
Millie Cousins stealing home for the fourth run of the game and
Victoria Fletcher's two-run homer to left center for the final two runs of the inning. It was her team-leading fourth homerun of the season.

The Lady Bears rounded out the scoring in the seventh inning when
Anaya Hunte doubled to left field to score
Hunter Newman.

Bostedt led Morgan with two hits in four at bats, two runs and an RBI.
Ky'Anah Lake finished 2-for-3 with a run and a walk. Fletcher went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Morgan State will return home to host Rider on Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.
