ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 10, 2024)--Morgan State's women's tennis team dropped its non-conference match on the road to Navy, 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.
Morgan State had its season-long two-match winning streak come to an end and fell to 4-12 on the season, while the Mids improved to 21-6.
The Lady Bears started out strong, claiming the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.
Averiana Mitchell and
Iva Jankovic earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Navy's team of Olivia Fermo and Anna Jordaan.
Hannah Smith and
Lauryn Hall were paired together at No. 1 doubles and took down Parvathi Shanker and Julia Lee 7-6 (7-5) for the 1-0 advantage.
It would be all Navy after that in the singles competition, as the hosts would win all six singles matches for the final score.
Next Up: Morgan State will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play when it travels to Dover, Del. this Saturday, April 13 to take on Delaware State (9-5, 3-2 MEAC). First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Courtside Pickleball & Tennis Club.
