BALTIMORE, Md. (March 30, 2024) — The Morgan State men's team stepped out of conference play to record a thrilling 4-3 victory over visiting Harford C.C. on Friday afternoon.
With the win the Bears snapped a 3-match losing streak and improved to 6-9 (0-3 MEAC) overall, while Harford C.C. falls to 2-3 on the season.
The match commenced with the Bears claiming the doubles point. The tandem of Mikeal Carpenter and Bertin Karenzi proved unstoppable, putting the Bears on the scoreboard with a 6-2 win on court 1. The Fighting Owls leveled the score at 1-1 when Martin OPuetate and Aaron Gerald defeated Tezas Parmr and Destin Marshall on court 3. Coming down to court 2, Rhajzon Rankins and Antonio Sims would roll to a 6-2 win against Tristan Duval and Unai Llerena Perez to secure the doubles point for Morgan.
Moving into singles play, Mikeal Carpenter posted a 6-4, 6-1 win on court 1 against Lucas Fox. This triumph marked Carpenter's eighth singles win of the season, bolstering his impressive 8-5 record.
Harford's Tristan Duval ignited the Owls' rally with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over Rhajzon Rankins on court 2. However, the Bears swiftly retaliated, seizing a 3-1 advantage through Tezas Parmr's 6-1, 7-5 win against Martin Puetate on court 5.
On court 6, Destin Marshall's hopes of victory were dashed as he succumbed to a 6-4, 6-3 defeat against Aaron Gerald. Meanwhile, on court 3, the outcome of the match hung in the balance. Morgan's fate rested on the shoulders of Bertin Karenzi, who faced off against Adrian Weisser. Karenzi would go on to outlast Weisser in a 6-4, 6-2 triumph, securing the match victory for Morgan.
Harford finished the match with a win on court 4 behind Unai Llerena Perez's 6-4, 6-1 win against Antonio Santos.
