Men's Tennis Dominates Coppin State with a Resounding 7-0 Victory

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 8, 2024) — Morgan State's men's tennis team dominated Coppin State on Sunday, securing a resounding 7-0 victory at the UMBC Tennis Courts. 

The Bears (7-9) are now 1-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings while the Eagles (1-14) fell to 0-4.

Morgan got straight to action in doubles as Mikeal Carpenter and Niles Rachal won 6-1 on court 1 against Liam Murtaugh and Rick Nieke. The duo of Rhajzon Rankins and Bertin Karenzi then clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-4 victory over Kwaku Agyeman and Tinashe Whata.

In singles, Rhajzon Rankins pushed the Bears advantage to 2-0, winning 6-4, 6-3 on court 3 against Liam Murtaugh. Mikeal Carpenter followed along by winning a three set match on court 1 against Vansh Kapoor, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2.

Niles Rachal clinched the match for the Blue & Orange with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Harsh Kheterpal on cort 2 and pushed the lead to 4-0.

In a dominant display, Tejas Parmar and Antonio Santos led the charge for their team, securing resounding victories in their respective matches. On court 5, Parmar continued his offensive onslaught, dismantling his opponent 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, on court 6, Santos recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory to further solidify the Bears' lead. 

To seal the 7-0 sweep, Jaeden Patterson took to court 4 and rallied back for a 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 win on court 4.
