BALTIMORE, Md. (March 28, 2024)--Morgan State women's basketball assistant coach Janelle Silver-Martin was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 list for the 2023-24 season, the WBCA announced today in Atlanta.
Â
"I am super grateful to be recognized for this honor. Thank you to the people that have poured into me along my journey," said Silver-Martin, who just finished her first season on the Lady Bears' coaching staff. "It means a lot to know the impact of the work being put in is not going unnoticed. I will continue to do my part to grow the game and positively impact the lives of our student athletes and surrounding community."
Â
This is the ninth year of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 program, which was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement. A total of 31 coaches received the honor this year due to a tie in the selection process.
Â
"Congratulations to these 31 coaches who have distinguished themselves so early in their careers," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The WBCA is pleased to recognize this up-and-coming talent in our coaching family. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes."
Â
A 2016 graduate of Morgan State with a degree in public relations, Silver-Martin began her collegiate playing career at Division II Ohio Valley University, where she appeared in 27 games during the 2012-13 season. She continued her undergraduate years at Morgan State, playing in 41 games from 2014-16.
Â
Silver-Martin resumed her playing career in 2017-18, appearing in 29 games at St. Thomas University, as she returned to school to pursue a Master's degree in sports administration. She would graduate from St. Thomas in 2018.
Â
A native of Washington, D.C., Silver-Martin returned to her alma mater in September 2023, joining the Lady Bears' coaching staff after spending the previous two seasons as the director of basketball operations at the University of Richmond.
