TOWSON, Md. (March 26, 2024)--For the second consecutive season the Morgan State softball team visited rival Towson riding a season-long six-game winning streak. And unfortunately for the second straight season the Lady Bears would fall to Towson by a run in eight innings.

Grace Franczyk singled to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Cara Bohner for the game winning run to give the host Tigers a 4-3 non-conference victory over Morgan State in eight innings on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium.

Towson improved to 13-18 with the win, while Morgan State dropped to 16-13.

Morgan State broke a scoreless game with two runs in the third.
Amber Rivas scored the first run when
Ellie Bostedt reached on a fielding error at third base. Bostedt would later score when
Victoria Fletcher singled to right field to give the guests a 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Bears' lead would be short lived, as the Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Cori Jones singled to center field to drive in two runs to even the score at 2-2.

The guests reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning when
Maia Wilkins singled to left field to score
Mia Ewell and give Morgan a 3-2 lead.

However, Towson again would tie the score in the bottom half of the inning, this time on a triple hit by Mackenzie Lake to right center field to score Franczyk.
Â
The score would remain tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Franczyk singled to left field to score Cara Bohner for the winning run.
Â
Franczyk led the Tigers with a game-high three hits and had a run and RBI. Jones totaled a hit and two RBI, while Lake finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Morgan State was led by Wilkins, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI against her former team.
Â
Morgan State will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play when it travels to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State in a three-game series. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday, March 29 beginning at 1 p.m. The finale will take place on Saturday at 12 p.m.
