BALTIMORE, Md. (March 29, 2024)--Morgan State swept its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader on Friday at South Carolina State, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 5-1 and 6-0 at Lady Bulldog Field.
 
Morgan State improved to 18-13 overall and 7-1 in the MEAC. South Carolina State fell to 4-18, 2-6 MEAC.
 
Alison Keener finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and RBI and Victoria Fletcher was 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead the Lady Bears to the Game 1 victory.
 
Morgan State broke a scoreless game with two runs in the fifth, capped off by a single by Fletcher to score Nia Lewis for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Lady Bears were back to work in the sixth inning, adding three more runs to increase their lead to 5-0. Melissa Paz singled to score Mia Ewell for the 3-0 lead. Maia Wilkins later scored on a single by Keener and Millie Cousins hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which scored Keener to put the guests ahead 5-0.
 
S.C. State got on the board in the sixth inning when DeAsia Lowth singled to center field to score Madison Boyd to cut Morgan's lead to 5-1.
 
Ellie Bostedt earned the win for Morgan State and improved to 4-1 on the season. Bostedt pitched 5.2 innings, surrendered a run on six hits and recorded three strikeouts. Emily Raubuch got the save, her third of the season. Raubuch would throw two strikeouts and not allow a hit or run in 1.1 innings of work.   
 
Game 2 stats were not available at the time of this release.
 
Morgan State and South Carolina State will wrap up their series on Saturday with a single game beginning at 12 p.m.
